Amber Jordan was recently selected as Teacher of the Year for Dillon School District Three for 2022-2023.
She was one of three school level Teachers of the Year vying for the position of District Teacher of the Year. The representatives from each school were as follows: Latta High School – Amber Jordan; Latta Middle School – Emily Mew; and Latta Elementary School – Keri McCormick.
Mrs. Jordan is a native of Fairmont, NC. She is married to James Jordan and is the proud mother of two daughters: Bailey Nicole Jordan and Lillie Kathryn Jordan. Mrs. Jordan was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art, with a concentration in Graphic Design from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. As a high school student assisting in an elementary classroom, Mrs. Jordan decided to become an art teacher. After Meredith, she enrolled in the Program of Alternative Certification for Educators (PACE) through the South Carolina Department of Education to obtain her certification in Art. In 2018, she added the area of Digital Art and Design to her certification.
Mrs. Jordan has been contributing to the students of our state for the past 13 years. She currently teaches the following classes: Digital Media Art, Studio Art, IB Visual Arts and Yearbook Production. In a recent quote, she indicated: “Students need a release from the stressors of the real world. I am glad I get to foster an environment in my art classes to allow for a fun and creative space where we try things outside of our comfort zone and learn from our mistakes.”
Being selected as District Teacher of the Year qualifies Mrs. Jordan as a participant in the selection of South Carolina Teacher of the Year, which is submitted in early January. The South Carolina Teacher of the Year Program is coordinated via the Division of Educator Quality & Leadership and is designed to honor those who are representative of the state’s many exceptional teachers.
