The Dillon County Veterans of the Year organization held a Patriot Day ceremony in memory of the tragic events of September 1, 2001.
Lloyd Brown welcomed the audience followed by prayer by Rev. Matt Adams of Dillon First Presbyterian Church.
The Dillon County flag was changed out with a new flag provided by County Administrator Tim Harper.
First Responder Awards were presented to EMT-Allie McDaniel, Fire Department-Station One Chief Russell Williams, and Police Department-Lake View Chief Jason Turner.
Dillon Mayor Tally McColl offered remarks. He had two challenges for the audience. The first challenge is to remember our heroes and the second challenge is to rekindle the spirit of unity that followed in the days of September 11, 2001.
After his remarks, the memorial wreath was placed by Mayor McColl, Ronnie Stone, and Joe Manning.
Lloyd Brown led in the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance.
Matt Adams closed the ceremony with prayer.
