The Latta Vikings defeated the Chesterfield Rams 21-6 in the first game of the football jamboree held in Dillon on Friday, August 11.
In the opening drive, Latta’s quarterback carried for 9 yards and passed to #13 for a first down. On the next play, the quarterback kept for 8 yards. The Vikings’ quarterback, #0, fired a completed pass to #89 for a big first down before running the football into the endzone for the first 6 points with 7:56 remaining in the first quarter of play. The PAT was good by #80 to give Latta a 7-0 lead.
The Chesterfield Rams quarterback, #7, fired a complete pass to #2 that was good for 7 yards. The Rams’ #4 picked up the team’s first down. A completed pass to #2 accounted for the next first down. The Rams’ quarterback, #7, kept for good yardage. Latta’s #1 intercepted a pass and returned it 54 yards for a touchdown. The Vikings’ #80’s PAT was good. Latta was up 14-0.
The Rams took over on offense and slowly moved the football. Chesterfield’s #4 picked up a yard on a carry followed by another yard. He carried again for a short gain followed by his picking up a first down on his next carry. The Latta defense stepped up and dropped the Rams’ #4 for a loss.
The Rams’ quarterback completed a pass to #11 as the first quarter ended with Latta up 14-0. Chesterfield’s #2 rushed for a short gain. Latta’s defense stopped the Rams and took over on Latta’s own 37-yard line.
Latta’s #3 carried the football but a penalty moved the ball back to Latta’s 29-yard line. Latta’s #3 picked up 9 yards on the next play. Latta’s quarterback fired a long pass to Chesterfield’s 36-yard line.
The Vikings’ quarterback kept the football and moved it to the Rams’ 27-yard line. #3 carried for a gain followed by the quarterback firing a completed pass to #5 who scored with 7:51 remaining in the second quarter.
After an incomplete pass by the Rams, #4 carried for a first down.
The Rams’ quarterback, #0, tossed a pass to #4 for a first down. After an incomplete pass, #4 carried for the Rams. On the next play, #4 is hit and fumbled. However, the Rams recovered. Chesterfield’s #4 scored with 4:02 remaining in the quarter. The PAT was no good. Latta led 21-6 at this point.
Latta was forced to punt after being unable to pick up a first down.
After Chesterfield’s #2 caught a pass, he carried the football to Latta’s 20-yard line. After a reception, the Rams’ #6 fumbled the football but Chesterfield recovered the fumble as the quarter ended.
