Many other matters were heard in General Sessions Court recently with Judge Michael Holt presiding.
Kenneth Smith pled guilty to robbing First Bank in an incident that occurred on July 12, 2022. Smith also pled guilty to associated charges of grand larceny and failure to stop for a blue light. Judge Holt sentenced Smith to 10 years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections. During the hearing, Jason Turner with the Dillon Police Department described the investigation into the bank robbery which included multiple surveillance videos from multiple locations showing Smith going to and from the bank.
Kennard McFadden pled guilty to strong arm robbery and was sentenced to 12 years in prison for an incident occurring in July of 2021. McFadden admitted his guilt to robbing a friend of his car, iPhone and cash. Marquize Edwards pled guilty to multiple charges including assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature for a shooting that occurred at Food Mart in the city limits of Dillon on September 6, 2021. In that case, also investigated by Jason Turner of the Dillon Police Department, Edwards was caught on surveillance video at the store shooting at the victim in broad daylight. Assistant Solicitor Shipp Daniel, who prosecuted all of the cases above, told the Court that Edwards was on the trial list for October 10, 2022 if he did not plead this week. Edwards was sentenced to 12 years in prison and must serve 85% of that sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
Through Wednesday, the Court had heard approximately 40 matters and is scheduled to hear another 20 matters on Thursday.
