The Lamar Silver Foxes will have a new coach take the field in Dillon’s opener, but he is not new. Josh Pierce got the opportunity to move up from assistant to the “head man” when former head coach Chad Wilkes landed the head coaching job at Oceanside Collegiate. For three years Pierce led the Silver Fox defensive and even as head coach, he still will coach the defense.
Dillon, on the other hand, will be led by last year’s head man, Kelvin Roller, whose Wildcats lost a heartbreaker to Camden, 13-7, in last year’s AAA lower state title game. The loss was the only one after Roller’s squad reeled off 9 straight victories.
The Wildcats will in all probability have a starting freshman at quarterback when Josiah Oxendine takes the snap from center. He will have Ty Martin, a talented running back who averaged 7.5 yards on 41 carries, from last season’s team behind him in the backfield.
Marty McIntyre will return as the defensive coordinator and linebacker coach for the “Nasty Cat” defense.
