Robert Craft Austin, 88, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence. A Memorial service was held 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 8, 2021 at Main Street United Methodist Church in Dillon with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Kannaday Funeral Home in Dillon is assisting the family.
Bob was born in Portland, Oregon March 21, 1933,the son of the late Col. Ernest Campbell Edward and Minnie Olive Craft Austin. After serving in the Army, he worked for several different companies designing manufacturing plants and production lines. His last engineering job was with Signode in Latta, SC. He enjoyed his retirement with his wife, Jan, traveling and entertaining friends in their home. He was Past President of the Latta Rotary Club and was proud to be a Paul Harris Fellow. Bob always enjoyed talking to people all over the world on his Ham Radio and was a member of The Florence Amateur Radio Club. He was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church, George Taylor Sunday School Class, and attended The Methodist Men Group when his health was better. Mr. Austin is survived by his wife Janice Hundhausen Austin of the home; son, Craig Austin (Laura) of Jacksonville, FL; stepson, James Howard Southern, Jr (Brandi) of Caruthersville, MO; stepdaughters, Cindy Southern Shaw (James) of Glen, MS, and Terri Southern Schmidt (Peter) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; brother, Donald Campbell Austin of Grand Junction, AZ; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
