The Lake View Wild Gators defeated the Timmonsville Whirlwinds 32-12 in varsity football action played in Timmonsville on Friday, October 15.
The Wild Gators kicked an onside kick to the Whirlwinds providing the Timmonsville team with good field position on the 50-yard line. After a 5-yard penalty against the Whirlwinds and a 6-yard loss, Timmonsville faced a third and 21. Following an incomplete pass, the Whirlwinds #6 did a quick-kick to the Lake View 25-yard line that the Wild Gators’ Tyrell Foxworth picked up a first down on third and 5. Foxworth picked up 2 more first downs before Raekwon McNeil carried for 20 yards placing the football on Timmonsville’s 10-yard line. From there, McNeil carried to the 3-yard line. With 2:14 remaining in the first quarter, Derrick Bethea kept for the touchdown. Luke King rushed for the 2-point conversion to give Lake View an 8-0 lead.
The Whirlwinds returned the kickoff to Lake View’s 45-yard line. The Whirlwinds fumbled, and Lake View recovered and began to move the football towards the goal line. Tyrell Foxworth entered the end zone as time expired in the first quarter. The 2-point conversion attempt failed but Lake View led 14-0.
The Timmonsville Whirlwinds managed to run and pass the ball on several plays. Following a pass reception to #2 that ended on Lake View’s 12-yard line, the Whirlwinds were faced with third and 9. Jayden Ford carried the football to the 6-yard line. On fourth down, Timmonsville’s quarterback overthrew his receiver in the end zone, and Lake View took over on the 6-yard line. Lake View was unsuccessful at moving the ball, and Luke King was forced to punt from the end zone. Timmonsville took over on Lake View’s 20-yard line.
Timmonsville’s #8 made a good catch and scored after the reception with 5:28 remaining in the first half. The 2-point pass attempt failed. However, Lake View’s lead was cut to 8 points, 14-6.
Penalties plagued the game. Many great plays were nullified due to penalties.
With 2:59 remaining in the first half, Lake View’s Derrick Bethea kept for the 6-yard touchdown. The 2-point conversion attempt failed but Lake View’s lead was 14 points, 20-6.
On the next series of plays, the Whirlwinds turned the football over to Lake View on downs. Lake View fumbled the ball, and Timmonsville recovered. Once again, penalties played a role in the game, and the Whirlwinds faced a fourth and 38 and decided to punt.
The first half ended with Lake View up 20-6.
On the opening kickoff of the third quarter, Lake View’s Tyrell Foxworth almost scored. With 11:31 remaining in the third quarter, he did giving Lake View a 26-6 lead.
On the next series of downs for Timmonsville, the Lake View defense prevailed, and Timmonsville once again punted. Lake View took over on their own 25-yard line. Faced with a fourth and long, Shaheed Dawkins punted. Timmonsville took over on Lake View’s 45-yard line. The Whirlwinds were faced with a fourth and 14 when Timmonsville’s #2 made a reception in the end zone that was good for 34 yards and the score to cut Lake View’s lead to 14 points, 26-12.
With 9:43 remaining in the game, Trey Page was on the receiving end of touchdown pass to give Lake View a 32-12 lead.
Time expired in the game with neither team adding in points.
