Joe Newton Minshew passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer on Friday, September 3, 2021 at the Conway Manor.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with a private burial in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00-3:00 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Born in Dillon County, January 27, 1940, he was the son of the late Joseph Tucker Minshew and Mildred Stevens Minshew. Joe was a long time resident of Ocean Drive, SC, where he enjoyed the company of many dear friends and often could be found sharing (remember when) stories with them at McDonald’s. Lance Corporal Joe Minshew was a Recon Marine Veteran, Semper Fi to the end. A graduate of the University of South Carolina. He was also an avid tennis player and was a former staff member at the Ocean Creek Tennis Center. He had three (3) over 70, 3.5 Southern Championship titles under his belt!
Joe is survived by 2 sisters, Hilda Minshew Wooten (Earl) of Duck, NC and Cecelia Mescia of Dillon; 2 brothers, Ronnie Minshew (Tina) of Dillon and Carroll Gene Minshew (Barbara) of Dillon; several loving nieces and nephews, Holley Edwards of Latta, SC, Leah Turner (Justin) of Gallivants Ferry, SC and Jennifer Wooten of Manteo, NC, Joseph Mescia of Boston, MA, Clint Minshew of Little River, SC, Eric Minshew (Beth) of Latta, David Wooten (Susan) of Simpsonville, SC and Sean Wooten (Jantaporn) of Kill Devil Hills, NC; several special cousins, and grand nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his longtime canine companion for over 13 years his rescue Labrador Retriever, Missy
Due to COVID-19 family will require that masks be worn during funeral service and visitation.
