Services for Roy Carter were held 3:00 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2021 at First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 457 Salem Road, Bennettsville with burial in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery in Hamer directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation was held 1:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Carter, 79, died Saturday, May 22, 2021 at his residence.
Born in Dillon County, SC, December 20, 1941, he was the son of the late Wilson Carter and Annie Bridges Carter. He was devoted to the Lord, and loved going to revivals and church singings. He worked in the textile industry and farming for years, and after retiring he managed a car wash where his wide range of friends would hang out. Roy was a very social man and was well loved by the community. He was a volunteer with the Blenheim Fire Department where he received numerous awards.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Kathleen Carter of Bennettsville; step-children, Betty Bowers (David) of Evans, GA, William Alford, Jr., Jennifer Driggers (Hank), and Randy Alford (Tonya), all of Bennettsville; 6 step-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Danny Ray Carter, Judy Gail Carter, Shirley Nicholson, Tony Carter, and Gladys Carter.
Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his brothers, Buddy Carter and Jimmy Lee Carter; and his sisters, Annie Carter and Patricia Gonzales; canine companion, Jake.
