Josephine Hodges Byrd departed this world on Sunday, May 9, 2021 to join her husband, loved ones, and beloved Savior in Heaven.
Jo Byrd was born on August 09, 1934 to Hardy and Christine Hodges. She served the Dillon community throughout her lifetime in many capacities. She worked at Belk Department Store, in public relations at McDonald’s, and taught kindergarteners as an aid at South Elementary School.
Above all this, however, Jo took the most pride in her service to the Lord. She tirelessly prayed over her family, friends, neighbors, and strangers. She discipled others with her outstanding witness. As a member of her church, the Dillon Church of God, she taught Sunday School, she was a dedicated choir member, and she directed children’s programs for many years. She was a shining light in her community to all she came across. To honor her memory, her family asks all who knew her and loved her to continue shining the light of Jesus Christ to others in our community and beyond.
She leaves behind three children: Angela Brant (Charles), Kevin Byrd (Nancy), and Pansy Williams (Mike); five grandchildren: Jonathan Brant (Amanda), Marissa Elliott (Keith), Sara Byrd, Katelyn Upton (Jordan), and Trevor Williams; and six cherished great-grandchildren: Daniel, Ryan, Casen, Maddox, Amelia Jo, and Kayleigh. She also leaves behind two sisters: Margie Shillingburg and Emma Cooper.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Christine Hodges, née Herring; her father, Hardy James Hodges; her stepmother, Addie Hodges, née Faircloth; one sister, Alice Faye Jackson; and her husband, Douglas Byrd.
The viewing will be from 3-4 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel in Dillon with a service to immediately follow at 4:00 p.m on Tuesday, May 11. Entombment will be held at Evergreen Perpetual Care Cemetery Mausoleum.
