The Latta High School Vikings honored senior members of the football team, cross country team, band, and cheerleader squad Friday night as the football team hosted the Raiders from Hannah-Pamplico.
The honors would be short lived as the Raiders took command of the game early and handed the Vikings a 32-14 loss.
Kenyan Leggett got the Raiders on the board with his first of three touchdowns as he out-ran the Viking defenders 78 yards for the touchdown. The conversion failed holding the Raiders lead to 6-0 with 8:49 left in the first quarter. The first quarter would end with this score.
With 9:26 left in the second quarter Leggett scored his second touchdown on a 48-yard run putting the Raiders up 12-0. The score would stand as the conversion failed.
The Viking defense got them back in the game with Jamar Jones picking up a fumble and racing 20 yards for the touchdown. Krish Patel added the point after kick to cut the Raiders lead to 12-7 with 6:15 left in the second quarter.
With 21 seconds left in the first half of play Raiders’ quarterback Lane Calcutt hit wide receiver Rayonte Eaddy with a seven-yard touchdown pass. The conversion failed and the Raiders would take a 18-7 lead into the halftime break.
Late in the third quarter Calcutt would find wide receiver Ty’Shaun Self open for a 46-yard touchdown pass. Calcutt ran in the two- point conversion to increase the Raiders lead to 26-7 with 3:40 left in the third quarter.
The third quarter would end with this score. Leggett picked up touchdown number three with a 42-yard run.
The conversion failed holding the Raiders lead at 32-7 with 8:42 left in the fourth quarter. The Vikings would answer on their next offensive possession with quarterback Jamario Taylor hitting wide receiver Alex Strickland with a 35-yard touchdown pass. Patel’s point after kick closed the Raiders lead to 31-14 with 7:17 left in the fourth quarter.
The Raiders managed to keep the Viking offense out of the end zone the remainder of the game and leave Latta with the 32-14 win.
On offense for the Vikings, Jamario Taylor was 9 of 24 passing for 109 yards and a touchdown and had 50 yards rushing on 9 carries,
Tysean Johnson had 79 yards on seven carries and caught a pass for two yards, Chris McRae had 54 yards on eight carries, Phillip Davis caught two passes for 56 yards, Gabe Sherman had 46 yards on two carries, Alex Strickland caught a 35-yard touchdown pass, Jamar Jones caught three passes for 11 yards, Daz Blue caught a pass for four yards, and Jordan McRae caught a pass for positive yardage.
On defense, Chandler Mathews had ten tackles, Kwame Hennegan had eight tackles, Matt Clark had seven tackles, Bryce McRae and Josh
Williams had six tackles each with McRae adding a quarterback sack,
Jashad Smith and Zach Jones had five tackles each, Gabe Sherman and Jordan McRae had four tackles each, Keon White had three tackles, Darius Davis had two tackles, and Jamar Jones recovered a fumble and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown.
The Latta Vikings will travel to Mullins on Friday, November 1, for a 7:30 p.m. game. Support your team.
