The Dillon Christian School Warriors hosted Northwoods Chargers Friday night with the Warriors getting a 27-9 victory to open the season.
It was a slow first quarter as both sides seemed to have a case of first game jitters.
Late in the quarter Warrior quarterback Adam Norman raced 80 yards on a keeper run to get the Warriors on the board.
The kick failed holding the Warrior lead to 6-0 with3:21 left in the first quarter. The quarter would end with this score.
The second quarter was a defensive battle with neither side finding the end zone with the Warriors taking their 6-0 lead into the halftime break. The Warriors put the game away in the third quarter with some power running by Daniel Camp and Phillip Campbell. Campbell ran 17 yards for a touchdown with 9:01 left in the third with Josh Brown adding the point after kick.
With 4:10 left in the third Daniel Camp raced 58 yards for his first touchdown followed by a 21 yard TD run with 1:40 left in the quarter. Josh Brown connected on both extra point kicks to give the Warriors a 27-0 lead. The quarter would end with this score. Midway in the fourth quarter Northwoods got on the board with a safety.
With 5:47 left in the game the Warriors held a 27-2 lead. Following good field position after the free kick the Chargers finished the short drive with Charger quarterback Gabe Johnson hitting wide receiver Thomas Cook with a eight yard touchdown pass. Luke Moore added the point after kick to cut the Warrior lead to 27-9 with 3:13 left in the game.
The Warriors closed out the game with ball control offense getting the 27-9 win.
On offense for the Warriors, Adam Norman rushed for 105 yards on 8 carries with a touchdown and was 2 of 8 passing for 60 yards. Daniel Camp had 91 yards on 5 carries with two touchdowns. Austin Heasley caught two passes for 60 yards and added 8 yards rushing, and Phillip Campbell had 44 yards on 5 carries with a touchdown. On defense, Austin Heasley had 10 tackles, 3 assist, Cooper Lane had 7 tackles, 4 assists with a fumble recovery, Collin Hamilton had 7 tackles 3 assists. Caleb Boykin had 6 tackles, 2 assists. Weston Glassgow had 6 tackles with an interception. Jacob Dubose had 5 tackles, Jacob English had 4 tackles, 2 assists with a quarterback sack, Barnes Causey, Logan Jones ,and Josh Duran had 3 tackles, 2 assists each with Duran getting a quarterback sack. Daniel Camp, Josh Brown and Zach Hunt had 2 tackles with 2 assists each. Phillip Campbell, Zion Jefferson, Austin Coward, and Cade Williams added a tackle with an assist each and Adam Norman had an interception.
The Warriors will travel the next three weeks beginning with Robert E. Lee in Bishopville on September 6, Trinity Byrnes in Darlington on September 13, and The Kings Academy of Florence on September 20.
The Warriors next home game will be on September 27 with archrival Pee Dee Academy. All game times are set for 7:30.
