The Lake View 9-10 year old softball team handed Marion a 11-4 loss in softball tournament play held in Lake View on Monday, June 24.
The game was suspended with Lake View leading 8-0 in the top of the second inning on Saturday, June 22, due to rain. There were 2 outs in the inning when Lake View’s #9 garnered a walk to load the bases.
Lake View’s #2 also garnered a walk and a run crossed home plate to give Lake View a 9-0 lead. In the bottom of the second inning,
Marion’s lead off batter was hit by a pitcher. Marion’s #4 garnered a walk followed by #9 who also picked up a walk to load the bases.
However, Lake View got out of the inning without allowing Marion to score.
Lake View’s lead-off batter, #1, hit a grounder to the pitcher and beat the throw to first for a lead-off single. Marion retired the next two batters before Lake View’s #4 hit a hot one to the shortstop who made a great catch and stepped on second base to retire the runner at first to close out the top of the third inning. Lake View’s pitcher, #4, walked the lead-off batter in the bottom of the third inning. She retired the next batter with a strike-out. Marion’s #7 picked a walk to load the bases. Marion’s #5 hit a grounder up the middle for a triple and a rbi to give Marion the first score of the game. After 3 innings of play Lake View was up 9-4.
Neither team could muster a run in the fourth inning.
Lake View tacked on 2 more runs in the fifth inning to advance in the tournament while Marion suffered the second loss of the tournament.
