This Memorial Day weekend, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 32 volunteers will distribute the handcrafted, red crepe paper poppies honoring Americans War dead and honoring the millions of Americans who have willingly served our nation since WWI.

The American Legion and its Auxiliary adopted the poppy as its memorial flower, and mandated that contributions received from the distribution of the poppies be used for the sole purpose of aiding veterans and their families. Thus, the Poppy program began. Today, distribution of the poppy continues to assist hospitalized and disabled veterans in need of rehabilitation and financial assistance. It also serves veterans with some proceeds invested in local programs.
Two of our local programs are: (1) buying flags that are placed on veterans’ graves at local cemeteries for two weeks during Memorial Day and Veterans Day holidays (2) providing food baskets to needy veterans in our county during Thanksgiving and/or Christmas.
Please wear a poppy to show our gratitude to all our men and women of the armed forces and especially those who have paid the ultimate price, so that we could remain living in a free country under God. There is not a better way to say Thank You than to wear the poppy as a remainder that we will ALWAYS REMEMBER.
