The Latta Lady Vikings edged the East Clarendon Lady Wolverines 7-6 in varsity softball action played in Turbeville on Tuesday, March 26.
Latta placed 2 runs on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. East Clarendon answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning and managed to knot the score at 2 in the bottom of the second inning. Both teams scored 2 runs in the third inning to keep the game tied. The Lady Vikings took a 3-run lead in the top of the fourth inning and held on to the 3-run lead until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Lady Wolverines scored 2 runs.
Latta managed 8 hits, and East Clarendon managed 7 hits.
Latta’s Jena Stutler had a triple and a double with 3 rbi in 4 at-bats. Kaleigh Caulder had a double and a single with a rbi. Riana Green had 2 hits and a rbi in 3 at-bats. Bailey Wiggins picked up a rbi on a hit in 4 at-bats.
East Clarendon’s Kinsley Driggers was perfect at the plate with 2 hits including a home run and 3 rbi. Hope Azurdia had a double, a single, and 2 rbi in 4 at-bats. Elly Floyd had a double and a single in 3 at-bats.
Arica Gandy was the winning pitcher. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 7 hits, 6 runs of which 3 were earned, walked 3, and struck out 2.
Maddie Newsome was charged with the loss. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 8 hits, 7 runs of which 4 were earned, walked 3, and struck out 5.
Latta committed 5 errors in the game, and East Clarendon committed 2 errors.
Latta will host East Clarendon on Friday, March 29, at 6:00 p.m.
