Recently, the students at East Elementary held a food and supplies drive for the Dillon County Animal Shelter, and Mrs. Holli Strickland’s second grade class out-collected all the other classes at East Elementary.
Organized by Humane Society member Luanne Bozard, the project was successful in providing the cats and dogs at the Dillon Shelter with food, supplies, and toys for many weeks.
The Humane Society members and the East School staff agreed that the children would enjoy a rewards party after the hustle and bustle of the holidays, and it was the perfect gray, rainy day for shelter staff and the Humane Society volunteers to reward these children for their generous contributions.
Dillon County Animal Shelter Director Douglas Pernell commended the young people for their community involvement and their kind, caring hearts.
The students performed songs from their poetry and songbooks, and Humane Society members provided cupcakes, drinks,
Halos oranges and other goodies to show their appreciation for the children’s efforts.
East Elementary Principal Shannon Berry remarked on the strong sense of “Wild Kitten Pride” throughout the school.
She stated that the students recite their Wild Kitten Pledge daily and do a wonderful job of following that pledge.
She stressed that East Elementary really appreciates the support of the community, and they enjoy giving back to the community as much as possible.
She further stated that the Humane Society of Dillon County is one of their favorite community service projects.
