Members of the Northeastern Technical College Ministerial Alliance met recently to discuss how the college and area churches can “partner for a better community,” and improve the lives of our citizens through education.
During the program, participants heard testimony from NETC student Lisa McCollough, and her pastor, Eddie Davis of Community of Grace Church in Bennettsville.
“The Career Connect program proved to me that I could go higher and achieve more,” said Lisa McCollough, “I earned a Forensics in Criminology Certificate, which helped broaden my knowledge and explore new skills.”
Career Connect is a short-term workforce development program designed to provide entry-level job certification. Classes completed under the program provide college credit that can also be applied toward a higher credential such as a diploma or associate degree.
“Thanks to this program, I have learned a lot about myself,” McCollough added. “I plan to pursue a career in law enforcement that’ll allow me to use my God given talents to help others.” Lisa is on track to earn her associate degree in Criminal Justice this May, was named to the Fall Dean’s list, and says that she has always aspired to be an FBI agent and work in law enforcement. The Ministerial Alliance was created as a partnership between NETC and area churches to help identify needs and barriers to education in our area, while helping the college reach further into our communities to promote and support higher education.
“We are proud of Lisa, her accomplishments, and we support her in becoming the best that she can be,” said Pastor Eddie Davis. “I hope other churches will take advantage of the programs and resources being offered by NETC and encourage their members to follow through with their education.”
