John Wesley Smith, 73, died Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at his residence.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held 3:30 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2019 at Smith Family Cemetery in Latta. Visitation will be held 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at Cooper Funeral Home.
Born in Marlboro County, SC, April 2, 1945, he was the son of the late Charles Wesley Smith and Mary Louise Ervin Smith. He was a retired U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Karin S. Smith of Latta; children, Phyliss Smith of Latta, Betty Smith of Killeen, TX, Hardy (Cassandra) Stefan of Columbia, SC, and Rita (Axel) Alpen of Germany; grandchildren, Jaxson Smith, Faith Smith, Chelsey Smith, Megan Smith, Christopher (Terrain) Stefan, Samantha (Chris) Curtis, Denise Alpen, Mahogany, Norman, and Kyah; 8 great grandchildren; brothers, Fred (Donna) Smith of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Frank (Patsy) Smith of Latta; sister-in-law, Doris Smith of Latta.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his son, John Smith.
