On January 1st, 2019 at approximately 7:00 p.m. in the evening,
The City of Dillon Police Department began responding to 911 calls about a person being on the hood of a vehicle while the vehicle was driving south on Hwy. 301 through the city limits.
Within minutes, law enforcement responded to another 911 call in reference to an unresponsive person lying in the roadway at the intersection of South 10th Avenue and East Calhoun Street.
The unresponsive person passed away as a result of the injuries received during this event.
Coroner Donnie Grimsley said the deceased is June Rippy, age 54.
A subsequent investigation into this incident led the City of Dillon Police Department to arrest Phillip Turner and charged him with Voluntary Manslaughter.
The City of Mullins and The Dillon County Sheriff’s Department were involved in this investigation.
