The Dillon Historic School Foundation’s November 1st meeting was short, but with several important discussions and pending activities planned. The meeting started at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room at the Dillon Chamber of Commerce offices, which is the group’s usual meeting time and place.
After Chairman Lorene Bridgers Arnette called the meeting to order, Vice-Chairman Abbott Shelley gave the invocation, followed by members rising for the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag.
The agenda focused on fundraisers and other resources for financial supports needed for pending restoration work for the historic J V Martin Auditorium. As BBQ suppers have previously been very successful, another is in the planning stage using the popular Schuler’s BBQ to cater the event.
Primary discussion featured planning for repairs to the Auditorium’s large tinted glass windows to begin as soon as funding is available.
Additionally, the J V Martin complex has recently been plagued with a series of vandalism and trespass incidents. Repairs to damaged fencing have been completed and several options and interventions were discussed. Local law enforcement has investigated each of the break-ins and has maintained frequent surveillance at the property. Members continue to monitor the facilities intermittently on an on-going basis. The meeting adjourned with a reminder the next meeting will be December 4, 2018, (the first Tuesday) at 7:00 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce Conference Room
