Michael Hayes, II, a senior at West Florence High School, is the kicker/punter for the varsity football team.
He received his first Division I college offer on Saturday, October 13, from Charleston Southern University.
After many years of hard work, this year he sports a perfect 41 of 41 attempted extra points thus far into the season. He has made 4 of 6 field goals attempted with a long of 39 yards. He has 46 of his 54 kickoffs as touchbacks with a 65-yard average and a long of 73 yards. He has a 36-yard average on his punts.
Hayes played an important role in the 51-44 win over Carolina Forest in Florence on Friday, October 19. While the West Florence Knights were trailing 30-22, Hayes’ onside kick and recovery changed the momentum of the game to the Knights.
Hayes is one of the players from the Pee Dee selected to play in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
Michael is the son of Michael and Michelle Hayes, formerly of Dillon, S.C. He is the nephew of Dean and Susan Shuttleworth of Dillon, S.C., and Phil Hayes of Florence, S.C.
