James Douglas Stanton, 83, went to be with his heavenly father on September 13, 2018.
Doug was born in Dillon, South Carolina, to the late Daniel C. & Boyce Hodges Stanton. He served in the United States Army, and served 18 months overseas in Germany. He was a member, layman, and interim pastor of Second Baptist Church in Dillon, South Carolina. He was retired after 30 years with Winn Dixie in Dillon, South Carolina, as well as 32 years with I.G.A. in Dillon, South Carolina.
He was predeceased in death by his parents; brother, Daniel Frank Stanton; and sister-in-law, Penny Carter Stanton.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of sixty years Mildred Suggs Stanton of Dillon, South Carolina; Son, Glenn Douglas Stanton of Dillon; Grandchildren, Brittni Stanton Welsh (BJ) of Timmonsville, Chelsie LeAnne Stanton of Florence, and Grayson Cottingham of Florence; Great-grandchild, Tanner Douglas Welsh of Timmonsville; Siblings, John Wayne Stanton of Dillon, Faye S. Miller (Jack) and Patsy D. Stanton of Temperance Hill, and Sister-in-law Virgie Gandy Stanton of Raleigh, North Carolina; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church in Dillon, South Carolina, with a memorial to follow at 11:00 a.m. directed by Cooper Funeral Home.
