There is an officer-involved shooting at the river access on Highway 57, according to Captain Cliff Arnette of the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office. SLED has taken over investigation of the matter, Arnette said.

UPDATE:
Here is more information on the officer-involved shooting on Wednesday. Thom Berry of SLED reports that an SCDNR officer was working a litter surveillance at a boat landing off Highway 57 South. There was a confrontation with a man in a vehicle at the landing. The driver in the vehicle was shot (non-life threatening injuries). The DNR officer is okay. SLED is working the case as an officer involved shooting. No further information was available.

UPDATE:
Agents of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division continue work in their investigation of an incident on Wednesday when one man was shot in a confrontation with an officer of the S.C. Department of Natural Resources during a litter surveillance operation in Dillon County.
SLED conducts law enforcement officer-involved shooting investigations at the request of the agency involved in the incident. Theses independent investigations follows SLED’s guidance in conducting interviews along with the gathering and analysis of forensic evidence. Interviews are being conducted with the officers and others.
Information gathered in the SLED investigation of the incident will be summarized in a case file report to be submitted to prosecutors.
This is an ongoing investigation. No other information about the case will be disclosed by SLED at this time. SLED will defer to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources for any information about their officers.
The incident in Dillon County was the 23rd officer-involved shooting in South Carolina in 2018, and the first this year involving an officer of the S.C. Department of Natural Resources. In 2017, there were 49 officer-involved shootings in South Carolina; none involved the S.C. Department of Natural Resources.
