The Dillon County Long Term Recovery Group, developed to help citizens recover from Hurricane Matthew, has been working under the direction of Chairman Ken Smith to help citizens get the aid they need.
Recently, they began work on their first houses. They want people to know that they are available to help.
Smith said it has been a laborious process. They received a $15,000 grant from the One SC Fund. They have had approximately $5,000 donated. They have had to get people to set up to do the work – many of whom are out-of-town volunteers. Although it has been a difficult process, they are finally getting work done.
“This is a marathon, not a sprint,” said Smith. The two homes being addressed are on Gordonville Court and Thurgood Drive.
Smith said they are looking for volunteer board members from any organization in the community.
Smith said they are the last resort to helping disaster victims to get into safe, secure, and sanitary housing. They work with various organizations and charities to accomplish this.
