Wildcats Fall To May River
The Dillon Wildcats suffered a heart-breaker 8-7 seventh inning loss to May River on the road on Saturday, April 28, in class 3A District VIII playoffs.
May River took a 1-run lead in the bottom of the third inning. However, Dillon responded with a run of their own in the top of the fourth to knot the score at 1. May River added another run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 1-run lead. Dillon added 3 runs in the top of the fifth and enjoyed that lead until the top of the seventh inning when the Wildcats added 3 runs to take a 7-3 lead. May River placed 5 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh to capture the win.
May River connected for 10 hits in the game while Dillon managed 8 hits.
Dillon’s Davis Cook garnered a hit and 3 rbi in his 3 at-bats.
Dillon committed 2 errors in the game while May River was perfect with no errors on defense.
Kamryn Bleason picked up the win. He pitched 4 and 2/3 innings and allowed 6 hits, 4 earned runs, walked 1, and struck out 4.
Billy McGirt suffered the loss for Dillon. He pitched 5 innings and allowed 5 hits, 3 runs of which 2 were earned, walked 4, and struck out 7 in the contest.
Wildcats Lose To Hanahan
The Dillon Lady Wildcats returned home Saturday, April 28, after suffering a 4-0 shut-out loss to Hanahan in the Class 3A varsity softball playoffs in Hanahan.
Although Hanahan had only 5 hits to Dillon’s 4 hits, Hanahan managed to place runs on the scoreboard to take the decision. Hanahan scored 1 run in the bottom of the first inning and added 3 in the bottom of the second inning.
Dillon committed only 1 error in the game, and Hanahan did not commit an error.
Dillon’s Emilee Price connected for a double and a single in her 3 at-bats.
Latta Defeats Silver Bluff
The Latta Lady Vikings picked up a 10-0 win in 5 innings over Silver Bluff in Class 2A District VI playoffs held in Latta on Friday, April 27.
Silver Bluff was held to only 1 hit as Latta’s Arica Gandy picked up the win. She pitched 5 innings and struck out 4.
Kaley Higgenbottom was tagged with the loss. She pitched 4 and 1/3 innings and allowed 13 hits, 10 runs of which 7 were earned, walked 2, and struck out 1.
Latta picked up 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning, added 4 in the bottom of the fourth inning, and 1 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Lady Vikings’ Madison Owens had a double, 2 singles, and a rbi in her 4 t-bats while Camryn Sawyer had a double, a single, and a rbi in her 3 at-bats.
Latta committed 2 errors in the game, and Silver Bluff committed 4 errors.
Latta is 21-4 for the season.
Latta will host an opponent on Wednesday, May 2.
Dillon Shuts Out Edisto
On Friday, April 27, the Dillon Lady Wildcats shut out Edisto 10-0 in varsity softball action in Dillon in the Class 3A District VII playoffs.
Monasia Sowells picked up the win for Dillon. The Lady Wildcats’ Emilee Price picked up 2 rbi on a triple and a single in her 4 at-bats while Kurstin Hopkins and Nyasia Wilson each had 2 hits and a rbi in the game.
Vikings Shut Out Silver Bluff
The Latta Vikings shut-out Silver Bluff 4-0 at home on Wednesday, April 25, in varsity baseball Class 2 A District VI playoff action behind the pitching of Noah Henderson and Hunter Sawyer.
Noah Henderson pitched 6 innings and struck out 12, walked 2, allowed 2 hits, and allowed no runs. Hunter Sawyer came out of the bullpen and pitched the final inning. He allowed no hits, struck out 1, walked no one, and allowed no runs.
X. Johnson was tagged with the loss. He pitched 6 innings and allowed 4 runs of which 2 were earned, walked 2, and struck out 5.
The game was scoreless until Latta placed a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the sixth inning Latta scored 3 runs as John Malcolm George connected for a single and picked up 2 rbi while Kody Anderson connected for a single and a rbi.
Latta’s Deonte Stanley doubled in his 2 at-bats and scored a run while McLeod Carmichael had 2 singles and a walk in his 4 plate appearances. Russ Rogers also connected for 2 singles in his 4 at-bats. Chandler Matthews garnered a walk and scored a run in his 3 plate appearances while Jordan Hayes scored a run.
Latta also stole 6 bases in the game led by McLeod Carmichael with 2 stolen bases.
Silver Bluff’s C. Connelly connected for a single in his 2 at-bats while T. Green also garnered a single in his 3 at-bats. M. McCorkle garnered 2 walks in the game.
Latta was guilty of 1 error while Silver Bluff committed 2 errors.

Lake Views Wins Over Charleston Math and Science
A 14-0 win over Charleston Math and Science in a run-ruled, 5-inning varsity baseball Class A District VIII playoffs held in Lake View on Thursday, April 26.
Deonte Roberts picked up the win for Lake View. He pitched 2 and 2/3 innings and allowed 1 hit, walked 1, struck out 7, and allowed no runs.
Lake View jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and continued to add runs as the game progressed. In inning 2, Lake View placed 6 runs on the scoreboard, added 4 runs in the bottom of the third, and another run in the bottom of the fourth.
Lake View did not commit an error in the game while Charleston Math and Science was guilty of 3 errors.
Lake View managed 9 hits while holding Charleston Math and Science to only 2 hits.
The Wild Gators’ Jett Lewis was perfect at the plate with 3 hits including a double and 5 rbi in his 3 at-bats while Rameer Sowells also was perfect at the plate with 2 hits in 2 at-bats.
Lady Warriors Edge Out Florence Christian
The Dillon Christian School Lady Warriors edged Florence Christian 7-6 in varsity softball action played in Florence.
After taking an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Florence Christian knotted the score at 2 in the bottom of the third inning. The Lady Warriors responded with a run in the top of the fourth to take a slim 1-run lead and added 2 runs in the top of the fifth inning. However, Florence Christian responded with 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 1-run lead. The Lady Warriors managed to score 2 runs in the top of the seventh to take the win.
Dillon Christian School connected for 10 hits, and Florence Christian had 9 hits.
The Lady Warriors were guilty of 6 errors, and Florence Christian was guilty of 4 errors.
Dillon’s Shayla Hunt connected for 3 hits including 2 doubles and 6 rbi in her 4 at-bats to lead the Lady Warriors.
Florence Christian’s Alyssa Kearns had a double, a single, and 2 rbi in her3 at-bats while Carolina Page had 2 hits and 2 rbi in her 4 at-bats. Larune Tyalor was perfect at the plate with 2 hits and 2 rbi in her 2 at-bats. Corlye Keefe connected for a double and 2 singles in her 4 at-bats.
Lindsay Branch picked up the win for the Lady Warriors. She pitched 7 innings, allowed 9 hits, 6 runs of which 4 were earned, walked 3, and struck out 3.
Corley Keefe also went the distance and was charged with the loss. She allowed 11 hits, 6 runs of which only 1 was earned, and struck out 5.
VIkings Hand Woodland A Loss
The Latta Vikings handed Woodland a 10-0 loss in Latta on Thursday, April 26, in the District VI varsity baseball playoffs.
Latta pounded 12 hits and was complemented by the 10-rule, 5-inning game pitching by McLeod Carmichael who allowed only 2 hits while walking 1 to pick up the win.
Although Latta faced 3 pitchers, Cameron Way was tagged with the loss. He pitched 2 innings, allowed 8 hits, 6 earned runs, walked no one, and struck out no one. Z. Barfield also pitched 2 innings. He allowed 1 hit, walked 2, and allowed 2 runs that were not earned. A. Connelly pitched 1 inning and allowed 4 hits, walked 2, struck out 1, allowed 2 runs of which 1 was earned.
Woodland’s C. Way managed a single in the second inning, and Z. Barfield also singled in the game. G. Pendarvis garnered the only walk issued in the game by Carmichael.
The Latta Vikings connected for 13 hits in the game including Dylan Brewer who had a home run, a double, 2 walks, scored 3 runs, and 3 rbi in his 4 plate appearances while Pierce Watson had 3 hits, a rbi, and scored a run in his 4 at-bats. Russ Rogers added 2 rbi and scored a run in his 3 at-bats. John Malcolm George had 2 singles and 2 rbi in his 4 plate appearances. Deonte Stanley singled, garnered a walk, and scored a run in his 4 plate appearances. Chandler Matthews singled, garnered a walk, and scored a run in his 4 plate appearances. McLeod Carmichael singled in his 4 at-bats while Jackson Powers singled in his 1 at-bat. Jordan Hayes singled and scored a run in his 3 at-bats. Chase Matthews and Chandler Nolan each scored a run in the game.

Lady Gators Shut Out Charleston Math And Science
The Lake View Lady Wild Gators shut out Charleston Math and Science 16-0 in a 15-run rule, 3-inning Class A District VIII varsity softball game played in Lake View on Saturday, April 28, at 2:00 p.m.
Grace Floyd picked up the win for Lake View.
The Wild Gators faced 3 different pitchers in the game.
Lake View placed 14 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning and added 1 run in the bottom of each the second and third inning.
The Lady Wild Gators’ Alex Elliott was perfect at the plate with 2 hits and 4 rbi in her 2 at-bats while Savannah Church was also perfect at the plate with 2 hits and 2 rbi in her 2 at-bats.
On Wednesday, May 2, Lake View will host the winner of Scott’s Branch and Charleston Math and Science who played on Monday, April 30.
Lady Vikings Defeat Calhoun County
The Latta Lady Vikings picked up a 13-0 win over visiting Calhoun County in varsity softball District VI playoff softball action on Thursday, April 26.
Latta’s Arica Gandy allowed only 1 hit and struck out 7 in the 10-rule, 5-inning game, to capture the victory.
Zailee Edwards was charged with the loss. She pitched 4 innings, and allowed 12 hits, 13 runs of which 6 were earned, walked 3, and struck out 1.
Latta connected for 12 hits and committed 2 errors in the game while Calhoun County was guilty of 5 errors in the game.
The Lady Vikings quickly got off to a good start with 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning, added 4 in the bottom of the second inning, 3 in the bottom of the third inning, and in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Arica Gandy aided her cause with a triple and a rbi in her 2 at-bats while Madison Owens connected for 3 hits including 2 doubles and a single with 3 rbi in her 4 at-bats. Camryn Sawyer had 3 doubles and 2 rbi in her 4 at-bats while Kyra Grant had a single, a double, and and a rbi in her 3 at-bats. Riana Green had a rbi and a double in her 2 at-bats.

Wildcats Hand Timberland A Loss
The Dillon Wildcats handed Timberland a 15-4 loss in the 10-rule, 5-inning varsity baseball game in he Class 3A District VIII playoffs held in Dillon on Thursday, April 26.
Dillon managed to place 2 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning and added 5 runs in the bottom of the second before Timberland managed to get 4 runs in the top of the third inning. Dillon answered with 5 runs in the bottom of the third inning and added 3 more in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Dillon pounded 15 hits in the game while holding Timberland to only 3 hits.
The Wildcats’ Jon-Mitchell Carter was perfect at the plate with a home run, 2 doubles, and 4 rbi in his 3 at-bats while Noah Carter connected for a double, a single, and 3 rbi.
The Dillon Wildcats committed only 1 error in the game, and Timberland committed 2 errors.
Tristan Brigman picked up the win for Dillon. He pitched 2 innings and aallowed 2 hit, 2 earned runs, walked 2, and struck out 5. Youngblood was charged with the loss. He pitched innings and allowed 8 hits, 7 runs of which 3 were earned, walked 1, and struck out no one.
Lake View Hands Charleston Math And Science A Loss
The Lake View Wild Gators handed the Charleston Math and Science Riptide an 18-0 loss in the 15-run rule, 3-inning varsity baseball game played in Lake View on Monday, April 30.
The Wild Gators placed 4 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning and 18 runs in the second inning with only 6 hits while holding the Riptide to a single hit up the middle by #4 in the top of the second inning.
Lake View turned a double play in the top of the second inning when Charleston Math and Science’s #8 hit a grounder to Lake View’s shortstop.
Each team committed 5 errors.
De’Ante Bridgett was perfect at the plate with a home run and 4 rbi in his 1 at-bat for the day while Jonathan Davis was also perfect at the plate with a double and 2 rbi. Jett Lewis also picked up 3 rbi on a hit in 2 at-bats.
Jett Lewis picked up the win for Lake View. He pitched 2 innings and allowed 1 hit, walked no one, allowed no runs, and struck out 4.

Edisto Falls To Dillon
Edisto returned home Monday, April 30, after losing to Dillon 5-1 in varsity baseball action in Class 3A District VII playoffs.
Edisto drew first blood with a run in the top of the second inning. However, Dillon responded with a run in he bottom of the second inning to knot the score at 1. Dillon added a run in the bottom of the third inning, 2 runs in the fourth inning, and the final run in the sixth.
Monasia Sowells pitched 7 innings and allowed 8 hits, 1 run that was not earned, walked no one, and struck out 2.
L. Dukes was tagged with the loss. She pitched 4 innings and allowed 7 hits, 4 runs of which 2 were earned, walked no one, and struck out no one.
Dillon’s Emilee Price connected for a double in her 2 at-bats while not only did A’Doshia Graves have 2 hits and a rbi in her 4 at-bats she also made some great defensive plays in the game. Abby Bristow, Jayla Goodwin, and Lexie Rogers each garnered a hit and a rbi in each’s 3 at-bats.
Edisto committed 3 errors in the game while Dillon committed 2 errors.
Dillon has 15 wins and 11 losses for the season.
Marlboro Academy Shuts Out DCS
Marlboro Academy shuts-out Dillon Christian School in varsity softball 13-5 in the 10-run rule, 5-inning game played in Bennettsville. The Lady Warriors were held to only 1 hit while Marlboro Academy connected for 7 hits. Marlboro Academy placed a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning, another run in the bottom of the second inning, 10 in the third inning, and 1 in the fourth. Marlboro Academy’s Savannah Barber had 4 rbi and 2 hits in her 3 at-bats. Madison Carriker connected for a hit and 2 rbi in 2 at-bats for Marlboro Academy while Abigail ridge had a double and a rbi in 2 at-bats. Reagan Liles picked up the win for Marlboro Academy. She pitched 5 innings and allowed 1 hit, no runs, walked no one, and struck out 8.
The Lady Warriors committed 4 errors while Marlboro Academy committed 2 errors.
Vikings Defeat CC
The Latta Vikings handed Calhoun County a 4-0 shut-out in Class 1A District VI Championship game played in Latta on Monday, April 30.
Dylan Brewer picked up the win for Latta. He pitched 6 innings and allowed 4 hits, walked no one, allowed no runs, and struck out 5. Hunter Sawyer pitched the final inning and allowed no hits, no runs, walked no one, and struck out 1 to garner the save.
J. Kitchings took the loss. He pitched 2 and a third innings and allowed 4 runs of which 2 were earned, allowed 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1. A. Isgett pitched 3 and 2/3 innings and allowed 1 hit, walked 3, struck out 1, and did not allow a run. Each team managed only 4 hits in the game but Latta scored 4 runs.
Latta did not commit an error in the game while Calhoun County was guilty of 3 errors.
Latta placed 2 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning and 2 runs in the bottom of the third inning. Latta’s Dylan Brewer connected for a home run and picked up the 2 rbi to give Latta a 2-0 lead.

Calhoun County’s K. Keller connected for a double in his 3 at-bats while C. Elders garnered a single in his 2 at-bats. J. Kitchings and A. Isgett each singled in 3 at-bats.
Latta will play Barnwell on Thursday, May 3, at 7:00 p.m. at Barnwell.
Golf Meet Held
A Region 7AA golf meet was held at the City of Dillon Municipal Golf Course on Tuesday, April 24.
Andrews placed first in the meet with a score of 349 followed by Latta with 367 who won the tie-breaker in sudden death. Marion placed third with a score of 367 followed by Johnsonville with 371. Carvers Bay captured fifth place with a score of 447.
The All Region Team consisted of H. Morris of Andrews in first place followed by N. Wise of Johnsonville in second place. Brenna Miller of Latta came in third followed by William Byrd of Latta in fourth. Fifth place was a 3-way tie consisting of R. Higbe, B. Nesmith, and A. Thomas.
Andrews and Latta qualify for state at Mount Vintage in North Augusta on Monday and Tuesday, May 14 and 15.
