Dillon JV Falls To Aynor
The Dillon Junior Varsity baseball team dropped a 5-2 decision to Aynor on Monday, March 26, in Dillon.
Dillon retired Aynor in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the first inning, and the same happened to Dillon in the bottom of the first inning.
Aynor managed the first base runner of the game on an error to center in the top of the second inning as #6 for Aynor arrived at first. Aynor’s #19 ht a line drive shot between second and shortstop for a single, the first hit of the game. Runners were on first and second with 2 outs. Dillon managed to get out of the inning as Aynor’s #6 was tagged out returning to third base.
With 2 outs in the bottom of the second inning, Dillon’s #18 was hit by a pitch to become Dillon’s first base runner.
Dillon faced only 4 batters in the top of the third inning.
Dillon’s #6 arrived at first on an error. #5 for Dillon arrived at base on a dead ball with runners now on first and second with only 1 out. Dillon was unable to muster any offense, and after 3 innings the score was still knotted at 0.
In the top of the fourth inning, Aynor’s #4 hit 1 to left for a lead-off single. He advanced to second on a passed ball. #6 bunted safely and now runners were on the corners with no outs. Aynor’s #4 scored the first run of the game on a passed ball, and the runner at first advanced to second. With 2 outs, Aynor scored another run on a hit that dropped into short center for a single. After 3 and 1/2 innings Aynor was up 2-0.
#8 for Dillon garnered a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. Dillon’s #18 also garnered a walk. Runners were on first and second with only 1 out. Dillon’s #6 hit 1 to short center and picked up 2 rbi to knot the game at 2 after 4 innings.
In the top of the fourth inning, Aynor placed 3 runs on the scoreboard to take a 5-2 lead over Dillon.
There was no more scoring for the remainder of the game.
Dillon’s Junior Varsity baseball will play the final game of the season today, Thursday, March 29, at South Florence at 5:30 p.m.
Latta JV Softball
Team Gets Win
The Latta Junior Varsity softball team returned home on Tuesday, March 27, with an impressive 17-0 win over Hannah-Pamplico in a 15-run rule shortened game.
Latta jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after the top of the first inning and added 11 runs in the top of the second while pounding 14 hits and holding Hannah-Pamplico to only 2 hits.
Not only did Latta present a potent offense, but Latta did not commit an error in the game while Hannah-Pamplico was guilty of only 1 error.
Latta’s Jordan Perritt pitched 3 innings and allowed only 2 hits, did not walk anyone, and struck out 7.
Sarah Grace Cacutt was tagged with the loss. She pitched 2 innings and allowed 14 hits, walked 3, and allowed 17 runs of which 14 were earned.
Latta’s Jena Stutler connected for a triple, a single, 5 rbi, and scored a run in her 3 at-bats. Breleigh Grant was perfect at the plate with 3 singles, 2 rbi, and scored 1 run in her 3 at-bats. Gracyn Hyatt connected for 2 hits, a walk, 2 rbi, and scored 3 runs in her 3 plate appearances. Jordan Perritt garnered a single, 2 rbi, and scored a run in her 1 at-bat. Elizabeth Brown hit a triple, picked up 2 rbi, and scored 3 runs in her 2 at-bats. Ava Rogers conncected for a single, 2 rbi, and scored a run in her 2 at-bats. Ragan Bethea garnered a double, 1 rbi, and scored 2 runs in her 1 at-bat. Evie Gibson singled and scored a run in her 2 at-bats. Caroline Anderson hit 2 singles, a walk, and scored 3 runs in her 3 plate appearances.
Hannah-Pamplico’s Riley Matthews and Sarah Grace Cacutt singled in each’s one at-bat.
Virginia F. Melton is Latta’s head coach. She is assisted by Jake Hyatt.
Latta will resume play after the spring break on Monday, April 9, at West Florence at 5:30 p.m.
Latta Gets Victory
Over Mullins
The Latta Vikings’ Kody Anderson pitched a 2-hitter to lead Latta over Mullins 10-0 in 5 innings at home on Tuesday, March 27.
Latta got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the second inning that was answered by Mullins in the top of the third inning. However, Latta took the lead again with 4 runs in the bottom of the third inning and managed to tack on 6 runs in the bottom of the fourth to claim the win.
Trey Anderson, Russ Rogers, and Chandler Matthews each had rbi in the fourth inning for Latta.
Latta’s Russ Rogers had a big day at the plate with 2 singles, a triple, 4 rbi, and 2 runs scored. Trey Anderson picked up 3 rbi on a double and a single in his 3 at-bats. John Malcolm George singled and picked up 2 rbi in his 2 at-bats. Chandler Matthews hit a double, garnered a walk, picked up 2 rbi, and scored a run in his 3 plate appearances. Peyton Benson hit a single in his 2 at-bats. Chase Mishue and Jordan Hayes each scored 2 runs in the game while Deonte Stanley scored a run.
K. Kleis garnered a double in his 2 at-bats for the only hit for Mullins.
Peyton Benson picked up the win for the Latta Vikings. He pitched 4 innings and allowed only 1 hit, struck out 7, and walked 1.
A. Fisher took the loss for Mullins. He pitched 3 and 1/3 innings and allowed 8 hits, 11 runs of which 9 were earned, walked 3, and struck out 2.
Dillon Gets Win
Over Georgetown
The Dillon Lady Wildcats returned home on Tuesday, March 27, with an 8-3 win over Georgetown in varsity softball.
The Lady Wildcats got on the scoreboard with 2 runs in the top of the first inning that Georgetown answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first.
Georgetown took a 3-2 lead after scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Lady Wildcats responded with 3 runs in the top of the fifth inning and added a run in the top of the sixth inning and 2 runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Dillon managed 9 hits while holding Georgetown to 6 hits.
The Lady Wildcats were guilty of 6 errors while Georgetown committed 3 errors.
Dillon’s Nyasia Wilson connected for a double and a triple in 3 at-bats while Abby Bristow garnered a double and 2 rbi in 4 at-bats. Jayla Goodwin picked up 3 rbi in 2 hits in 4 at-bats.
Monasia Sowells picked up the win for Dillon. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 6 hits, 3 runs that were not earned, walked 2, and struck out 2.
Watson was tagged with the loss for Georgetown. She pitched 6 innings and allowed 7 hits, 6 runs of which 5 were earned, walked 1, and struck out 1.
Dillon will host Lake City today, Thursday, March 29, at 6:30 p.m.
Wildcats Suffer
Loss to Georgetown
The Dillon Wildcats suffered a close 5-3 loss to Georgetown in a varsity baseball game played in Georgetown on Tuesday, March 27.
The Wildcats placed 2 runs on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning that was answered by Georgetown with 3 runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Dillon managed another run in the top of the fifth inning to knot the score at 3. However, this would be short-lived as Georgetown place 4 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth to go up by 4 runs.
Dillon got 2 runs across home plate in the top of the sixth inning but that was not enough as Georgetown held on for a 7-5 win.
The Wildcats connected for 6 hits while holding Georgetown to 4 hits.
Dillon committed 3 errors while Georgetown committed 4 errors.
The Wildcats’ Austin Tyndall and Tristan Brigman each connected for a hit in 2 at-bats while Ty’Quanb Rogers and Davis Cook each garnered a hit and a rbi in 3 at-bats. Jon-Mitchell Carter also connected for a hit in 3 at-bats.
Dillon is 6-3 overall and 2-2 in Region 6-3A.
Dillon will host Lake City on Thursday, March 29, at 6:30 p.m.
DCS Gets Win
Over Trinity Byrnes
The Dillon Christian School Warriors varsity baseball team took an early lead and held on to it through 5 innings of play before succumbing 5-3 to Trinity-Byrnes in the final innings in a game played in Darlington on Tuesday, March 27.
The Warriors placed 2 runs on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning that was answered by a run by Trinity-Byrnes in the bottom of the third.
Dillon Christian School managed to get a run across home plate in the top of the fifth inning but lost the game as Trinity-Byrnes managed to place 4 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Warriors managed 6 hits in the game while Trinity-Byrnes connected for 10 hits.
Dillon Christian School committed 3 errors, and Trinity-Byrnes committed 2 errors.
Barnes Causey led the Warriors with 2 hits in 4 at-bats.
Trinity-Byrnes was led by Jake Swartz who was perfect at the plate with 2 hits and 2 rbi in 2 at-bats while Nik Mezzenotti also was perfect withi a double and 2 rbi in his 1 at-bat. Brycen Rogers also connected for 2 hits in 2 at-bats.
Dillon Christian will not play again until after spring break which will be Monday, April 9, at Emmanuelle Christian at 5:00 p.m.
Lady Vikings Hand
Loss To Hartsville
The Latta Lady Vikings playing with a great deal of heart and chemistry dealt the talented Hartsville Lady Red Foxes a 4-2 loss in a hard-fought contest in Latta on Monday, March 26, in varsity softball action.
Latta scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead with the first run off of a stolen base.
Hartsville responded with a run of their own in the top of the second inning to cut the lead to 1.
The Lady Red Foxes tied the game at 2 in the top of the fourth inning.
Latta regained the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning with 2 runs with the first run off of an error.
Hartsville picked up 4 hits in the game with Sidney McInnis garnering a double and scoring a run while Brittany Cothran connected for a single and also scored a run. Shaquita Joyner and Mackenzie Bizzell each singled in the game. Joyner picked up 2 rbi in the game.
Latta managed only 3 hits in the game with Madison Owens connecting for a triple and scoring a run while Jayla Jackson garnered a double and scored a run. Camryn Sawyer managed a single.
Arica Gandy was the winning pitcher. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 4 hits, struck out 4, and allowed 2 runs that were earned.
Liz Stroud was tagged with the loss. She pitched 6 innings and gave up 3 hits, walked 2, struck out 7, and allowed 4 runs of which 2 were earned.
Latta will host Andrews today, Thursday, March 29, at 6:00 p.m.
