The Little Pee Dee State Park is not for sale.
Despite claims that Dillon County Council District Two may be attempting to purchase the park, state officials assure The Dillon Herald that the state park is not for sale and that improvements are planned for the park. Hurricane Matthew had a “devastating impact’ on Lake Norton at the Little Pee Dee State Park. “After months of engineering, permitting, and working closely with FEMA officials,” the project will soon go out to bid to repair the dam and spillway areas, according to Phil Gaines, director of S.C. State Parks. Bids should be awarded soon and work could start as early as April.
“Barring any unforeseen delays or weather, the lake should be back and functional this summer,” said Gaines, who said Rep. Jackie Hayes “concern and support for the park had been invaluable.”
A new camper cabin has been secured for Little Pee Dee State Park with funding made available by Rep. Hayes last year.
“The cabin site as been prepared, a foundation poured, and the cabin ordered. A Memorial Day weekend opening is expected for the cabin,” Gaines said.
“We consider Little Pee Dee State Park to be a vital part of the community and recognize the park’s significant effect on both the quality of life and economic impact of the region. We look forward to an exciting 2018,” Gaines said.
