Mrs. Estelle L. Bethea, wife of the late Shaw Bethea, Jr., departed this life on Sunday, January 28, 2018. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018. Viewing will be at 12 p.m. and the funeral will be held at 1 p.m. at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 1720 Bonsal Ct, Dillon. Following will be her burial at Page’s Cemetery. Shipman’s Funeral Home, 624 Highway 501, Latta, will be in charge of these arrangements.
She was born to the late Estelle Gruber Frasier and Ernest Frasier Sr. in Charleston, SC. She leaves behind her two daughters Chanda Bethea of Washington, DC and Shawnette (Anthony) Bethea-Hardiman of Charlotte, NC. She had six grandchildren: Cherise and Andon Hardiman of Charlotte, NC, Cyree, Tyree, Xavier Bethea and London Williams of Washington, DC. She attended Burke High School in Charleston, SC. While there she participated on the female basketball team. She studied cosmetology while in high school. After high school she moved to New York and worked as a beautician. She met her husband the late Shaw Bethea, Jr. who was in the United States Navy. She later moved to Washington, DC where she attended Southeastern University and became an accountant for the Department of the Navy.
She was a former Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Redemption Chapter No. 14,Daughter of Isis and Mecca Court No. 10. Once she retired, she moved with her husband to Floydale, SC. She attended St. Paul AME Church of Floydale, SC. While at St. Paul she was an active member of the Missionaries. She served as President for some time. She was committed to her Floyd Dale community.
