The Dillon Wildcats edged Whiteville 60-59 in a varsity basketball game played Friday, December 29.
The Wildcats held a slim 1-point lead after the first period. By halftime Dillon had increased the lead to 6 points.The Wildcats had a 7-point lead after 3 periods of play. Whiteville outscored Dillon 6 points in the fourth period of play to close the gap to only a 1-point loss.
Dillon’s Shamar McCollum scored 13 points connecting on five 2-point baskets and sinking 3 free throws while Darius Boatwright also connected for 13 points. Damari Ladson added 12 points while Justin Green connected for 10 points. Corrain Wright and Zy’Aire Charles each scored 5 points. George Thompson also garnered 2 points for the Wildcats.
Dillon pulled down 39 rebounds in the game with 22 of them on defense. Dillon’s offense shot 46% from the field and 56% from the charity line. The Wildcats committed 17 personal fouls in the game.
Whiteville connected on 68% of the free throws attempted while hitting 39% from the field.
Whiteville pulled down 26 rebounds in the game. Whiteville committed 14 personal fouls in the game.
The Wildcats will be in action at home tonight (Tuesday, January 2) against the Lake View Wild Gators.
