Maxie A. McKenzie Nunnery of Florence, SC went to be with the Lord, Monday, August 14, 2017. She was born in Dillon, SC a daughter of the late Fred and Fanny Herring McKenzie. Maxie was a graduate of Dillon High School and attended Southern Bell Telephone School in Charleston. She was employed by Sears and the Aiken Loan & Security Company. Mrs. Nunnery was also a freelance writer. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and former teacher of Esther Price Loyalty Circle. She was a former member & president of the Gardenia Garden Club and the founder of “The Happy Club”. Maxie was also a member of the Bolongo Dance Club.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry E. Nunnery, Sr.; a son David Maxie Nunnery; a grandson, Will David; two brothers, Wallie and Roy McKenzie; and a sister, Marilyn Inman.
Mrs. Nunnery is survived by two children, Mrs. Freddy (William) David of Florence, SC and Mr. Larry C. (Eilene) Nunnery, Jr. of Edisto Island, SC; four grandchildren, Larry E. (Shelane) Nunnery, III of Park City, UT, William C. (Gabriela) Nunnery of Mission, TX, Robin Paulus and April Andrews both of Florence, SC; eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace Lane of Gastonia, NC.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Mt. Hope Mausoleum Chapel. Entombment will follow in Mt. Hope Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, August 18, 2017 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home – 2402 S. Irby St. Florence, SC 29505.
