As part of their annual Nurses Week celebration, McLeod Dillon nurses sponsored a food drive to support Love Feeds. Love Feeds is a program that strives to provide weekend meals to children who qualify. One in every five children eats their last meal of the day at school.
“Approximately 400 children in Dillon County are food insecure,” said Reagan Jordan of Love Feeds. “This means they are lacking reliable access to affordable and nutritious food.”
Love Feeds is a non-profit organization that strives to provide weekend meals to students in Dillon County schools. It was the vision of Hunter Huss and Ellen Jordan. That vision has quickly come to fruition with a lot of hard work and continued support from the community. They now have many volunteers and a board comprised of 12 members. The program will begin serving 200 students over the upcoming school year, with the hope to meet the need of the entire community by 2018.
The cost to support one child is $110 and every penny goes directly to buying items for the kids. This price will provide food for every weekend of the school year.
Marcia Wilds, Chief Nursing Officer at McLeod Dillon, said “I am so proud of our nurses for supporting Love Feeds. Their generosity will make a difference in lives of the children in the Dillon Community.”
The donations received were presented to representatives from Love Feeds during the Nursing Awards at McLeod Dillon on May 12.
If you are interested in helping please consider donating, volunteering, hosting a food drive, or becoming a member of the team.
Checks may be payable to Love Feeds.
