The Pilot Club of Dillon met on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at The City of Dillon Fire Department. 11 members were in attendance.
The meeting was called to order by President Dorothy Stephens. She welcomed all members as well as fellow anchor, Fallon Adams. She asked all members to stand and recite the pledges to the American flag and the SC flag.
Chaplain Millie Stanton then began the devotion for the evening. Her scripture was based on Psalm 119:105. She discussed how God’ word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our paths and how each person should daily be about the Father’s business. All situations should be observed from God’s perspective.
She then blessed the refreshments that were provided by Jamie Sue Stephens. Refreshments consisted of pepperoni pizza, cheese pizza, meat special pizza, chips and cookies.
After refreshments, the secretary’s report was read by Melissa Moody and approved. She stated the newsletter was sent to each member’s email.
Jamie Sue Stephens asked Anchor Fallon Adams to explain the projects/activities the Anchor Club volunteered in helping and her future plans. Fallon Adams, Dillon High School Senior and Anchor Club member, announced her future endeavors included attending the University of South Carolina and majoring in Journalism. She spoke on how the Anchor/Pilot Club has had such an influence on her future. Some of the projects she assisted in; the Fall Festival, Father/Daughter Dance, Mother/Son Dance, Halloween for Special Needs, Caroling at Pines Nursing, Christmas cards to soldiers and several other activities. These projects have allowed her to meet to new people as well as serving others.
New business discussed was the voting on The Pilot Club of Dillon scholarships. All members read each applicant and winners were chosen from Dillon High School and Dillon Christian School. The scholarship winners will be notified on their school’s Class Day.
Next on the agenda, was voting on a nominating committee. These three members will be the deciding factor of appointing the new officers for 2017-2018.
The members chosen were: Julie Hatcher, Jamie Sue Stephens, and Chris Harris.
Jamie Sue Stephens revealed the birthdays for April. Millie Stanton and Jenny Hood were given gifts for their celebration. As these gifts were given, a surprise housewarming was bestowed upon Chris Harris. She received gifts such as outdoor flags, plants, gifts cards and kitchen décor. She cheerfully thanked everyone for their thoughtful gestures.
The mystery gift was won by Melissa Moody, and St. Jude monies were received. The meeting was then adjourned.
