The Dillon County Branch of the NAACP held their Annual Freedom Fund Banquet on Saturday, February 4th at at local business in Dillon. The selected theme was “Faith In The Time Of Fear.”
The introduction of the Dais, Toastmistress, and special guest was efficiently done by Mr. Kenny Smith. The Toastmistress of the evening was the stylish Nina Bradley. The audience was uplifted as they sung “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Rev. Margaret Swann gave the invocation.
The hearty welcome came from Ms. Sharon Grissett. The crowd was enthusiastically greeted by Mr. Rodney Berry, Dillon County Administrator, and Councilwoman Mertis Barnett of Lake View.
Ms. Doretha Page and Ms. Diane Harrison aroused the audience with their melodies of spirituals; an aura of reverence enveloped the hall as these talented songstresses lifted their voices in worship.
Ms. Mary Alice Townsend conducted the solemn memorial tribute. The memory flame was in honor of Elder Kevin Thomas and Martin L. King, Jr. The candle flickered brightly as she spoke fondly of recollections that emitted loving memories.
The speaker of the hour, Bishop Michael Goings, pastor of Outreach Family Fellowship in Dillon, was introduced by Mr. Famon Whitfield. Bishop Goings spoke from the topic “Faith In The Time Of Fear,” and the sub-topic, “Faith To Finish The Fight.. He encouraged everyone to remain positive and stay focused. His message was powerful and informative.
The remarks and appeal was given by Ms. Angel Bethea, President of the Dillon County Branch of NAACP. This organization has worked diligently to benefit humanity since its inception in 1909. Everyone was encouraged to join the NAACP; membership has its privileges!
The food was blessed and the benediction given by Rev. Fest Bethea, pastor of St. Beulah Baptist Church, Bennettsville.
A sumptuous dinner was served and the hour of socialization continued. The organization appreciates the support of all sponsors, patrons, and program participants. Music was provided by Master Brock Mack.
