Tyreke Toomer took another step in his football career on Friday, March 17, by signing with the Saint Andrews University to play football this coming fall season.
Toomer has always enjoyed playing football for as long as he can remember. He began playing flag football at the age of five after his Grandfather Willie Davis strongly suggested he play. He has excelled in that sport for some time as he came up through the rec leagues in Dillon, played middle school, junior varsity, and varsity football.
Toomer transferred from Dillon High School after his sophomore year.
For the past two seasons Toomer has been a starter on both the offensive and defensive sides as he played receiver on offense and cornerback on defense.
Although Toomer was recruited by other schools, after visiting the Saint Andrews University Toomer felt right at home and knew he would be a good fit in the program as this will be his new home away from home, the atmosphere there was perfect for him. Not only does Toomer excel at football but he also plays basketball and track.
Toomer excels in the classroom as he is in the Beta Club and in the National Honor Society.
His good work ethic will follow him from high to university play as he has always strived to do his best .
Toomer does occasionally enjoy work and texting on his cell phone but football is his true passion as evidenced in his making All Region and North/South Allstar.
In Toomer’s senior year at Dillon Christian School, he rushed 13 times for 105 yards and 1 touchdown.
He had 24 receptions for 494 yards including 6 receiving touchdowns.
He also had 5 punt returns for 198 yards. On defense while playing cornerback he had 20 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 1 fumble recovery.
“Words cannot express how very proud we are of Tyreke. We expect great things from him”, his mother exclaimed.
Athletic Director and head football Coach Christian Wolfe had only great things to say about Tyreke. “Toomer is a good all-around kid and a good student athlete. After coming to Dillon Christian School, he started both ways–defensively and offensively. He was instrumental in helping us go undefeated this season and in winning the state championship. He played his best game for us in the state championship as he had 5 receptions for 121 yards and scored a touchdown off of 1 reception. He certainly will be missed.”
