ORANGEBURG—All-MEAC redshirt junior linebacker Darius Leonard has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defensive Player of the Week, STATS FCS National Defensive Player of the Week as well as Boxtorow National Defensive Player of the Week.
He was also highlighted as College Sports Madness National Defensive Players of the Week and Men’s Football Hero of the Week by HEROSPORTS.COM.
Leonard (6-3, 225) recorded a game-high 14 tackles (11 solo), two (2) interceptions with one being a 64-yard return for a touchdown in the Bulldogs 14-9 victory over Howard Saturday (Oct. 15) in Washington, DC.
This is the third MEAC Defensive Player of the Week award for the Lake View, SC native and MEAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. He earned honors in Week #1 (16 Tackles) and Week # 3 (19 tackles, 1 block). Leonard currently leads the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in tackles with 68 tackles (38 solo) and two interceptions.
