Two men founded the Gideons International in 1908 and was soon joined by another man to have a president, vice-president, and secretary/treasurer positions filled.
From 1908 until 2002 the Gideons have delivered one billion Bibles printed throughout over 200 countries in the world.  Today the Bibles are printed in 95 languages.
From 2002-2015 another one billion Bibles have been delivered.
Walters scripture was from 1 Corinthians 3:6 and 7, John 8:32, Hebrews 4:12, II Timothy 2:2, and John 5:25.
The Gideons are sometimes referred to as “Bible-toting missionaries”.
The Bible is as relevant today as it was penned 2,000 years ago.
The Gideons offer different colored Bibles, each with different meanings.
The Gideons place Bibles into the hands of people who some day will read it.
Before Dillon was an independent camp, Dillon was part of the Florence Gideons. At a meeting in Florence in 1982 someone challenged all those present to donate at least one Bible in honor of Jesus’ birthday. The person who made the challenge agreed to match all of the donations. A few from Dillon who were present at the meeting brought the idea back to Dillon, and the Gideons Camp of Dillon County International was founded in 1983 and has constantly been in the top ten in the United States.
Every dollar that one donates to the Gideons is used in the distribution of Bibles. A new Testament costs $1.30 to print.
You, too, can be a part of this ministry.
