After 30 years of service, Laura Britt was selected to be the 2016 LVHS Teacher of the Year.
Britt’s career began after earning a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education, choral with an emphasis in Piano Performance from the prestigious Converse College Daniel School of Music in 1984.
Britt taught piano in the precollege department while simultaneously working as a substitute teacher in Spartanburg, SC.
Britt was then employed as an elementary music teacher in Colleton County. Once she honed her skills, Britt returned to Lake View with the goal of giving back to her hometown. She is a native of the Gaddy’s Mill community, and is the daughter of the late Hardy and Nancy Gaddy.
Britt’s late husband, Richard “Richie” Britt, and daughter, Kaitlyn, are Lake View Alumni.
Throughout the course of Britt’s teaching career, she has led additional chorus and performance groups. She continually dedicates herself to the community by teaching piano, aiding local choral groups, and providing support for students aiming to broaden their musical talents.
Britt is a lifetime member of Union United Methodist Church in Gaddy’s Mill where she has been pianist for over 41 years.
Her ultimate aspiration is to cultivate an appreciation for music among all of her students at Lake View as a form of both expression and personal growth.
