The Criterion Club’s Summer Fun Camp was held June 13-July 22, 2016. Criterion Club Sisters LaMecisa Bethea and Robin McRae directed the camp and Criterion Club Sister Deloris McRae-Augustus prepared and served delicious meals for the children daily. Also, Carmen (Gina) McCall and Dianna Johnson played a special role interacting with the children.
Approximately 25 children attended the camp daily. They enjoyed lots of fun along with educational activities.
Each day the activities began with the camp pledge and rules.
The activities included: arts and crafts, games, puzzles, ball games, exercises, and weekly trivia questions and discussions.
The City of Dillon Police Department K-9 Unit Officers Matthew and Allen came with the dogs, Diesel and Mace (what a great experience). They enjoyed movie trips to the local theatre, Criterion Sister Linda Manning-Langley came out and read stories to the children on several occasions, and Ms. April Tucker from McLeod Medical Center Lab came to talk to with the kids.
Mr. Fitzgerald Lytch came to the center and also invited the children to his business to learn about the techniques of drawing and art; each child received a name plate of their name from Mr. Lytch.
Mr. Famon Whitfield did a science project for the children along with a science and math question and answer session. Special campers were recognized weekly and given a prize. Mr. Adrian and Kadra Wright surprised the children with a special dessert treat.
At the end of the camp each child was given a Criterion Club back pack of school supplies from the Criterion Club.
Special thanks for a great summer camp to all who helped to make the Criterion Club Summer Fun Camp a success.
