Chief David Lane

Dillon City Manager Glen Wagner named David Lane as the Chief of Police of the City of Dillon on Monday.
Lane replaces Chief Joe Rogers who retired in June.
“I am honored to have been selected as Chief of Police to serve this department and our community,” said Lane.
“We have a very good group of officers in our department, and I look forward to leading them,” he said. “Dillon is a wonderful place to live and work, and I will do my best in my new role as Chief of Police.”
Lane was most recently serving as a captain with the City of Dillon Police Department. He has been employed by the department for the past 18 years and has worked his way from cadet to captain.
Lane lives in the City of Dillon. He and his children are members of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Lane is a graduate of Latta High School and attended Campbell University and Florence-Darlington Technical College where he studied criminal justice.
During his career with the City of Dillon Police Department, he was the first canine handler for the department and was a supervisor for the Interstate Criminal Enforcement Team.
Some of his certifications include firearms instructor, specific skills instructor, taser instructor, rifle instructor, Glock armorer, and canine handler.
Lane said some of the goals that he would like to implement including bridging the gap between the police department and the community by scheduling a citizens forum on a quarterly basis, providing officer training in police-community relations, having a yearly cook-out with cops, have a yearly drug-free workshop for students prior to entering high school, and including a civilian on the hiring team.
As chief,  he will work to maintain the highest standards by expecting officers to exhibit professionalism on and off duty, requiring uniformity in attire, requiring responsible use of department equipment, requiring a yearly physical fitness test, and selecting officer candidates who exhibit the best qualities of judgment, character, and dedication.
