The 15-year-old town clock in Dillon is about to be repaired.
Mayor Todd Davis said the contract had been signed, and the deposit had been made.
All four faces of the clock will be timepieces. The temperature gauges will be removed. The company said they had not had much luck with the temperature gauges working anyway, he said.
The total cost of the repair is just under $8,000. The clock’s original purchase price was $32,000.
City Manager Glen Wagner said the clock was originally designed to run off gears.
They found that this was not the correct way to do this so the gears will be replaced with a motor.
The motor will have a 10-year warranty. Then if anything happens only the motor will have to be replaced. A motor costs about $3,500.
Davis said they had looked into putting the city logo where the temperature faces were, but that didn’t work out.
Davis said the clock should be up and running soon.
