To The Editor:
I wish to respond to Mr. Brown’s letter of June 21 taking issue with Mr. Michael Goings. Mr. Brown’s harsh criticism of Mr. Goings’ editorial was ridiculous. Having read most of Mr. Goings’ columns, and by no means always agreeing with him, I have never detected un-American or un-Christian insinuations. He has advocated Christian principles of love and forgiveness.
Mr. Brown characterized him as homophobic. This implies a fear of homosexuals. Speaking only for myself, I have no fear of them. My fear is the continued degradation of our culture and constant pressure to accept a perverted lifestyle as ‘normal.’ I daresay, most Americans share that view, but a very vocal minority continually seeks to ‘push the envelope.’ I do not accept that pervasive ideology being shoved on our country.
Mr. Brown called Mr. Goings a purveyor of intolerance and bigotry. I think he, as most Christians are, is tolerant. We pray for the sinner, but do not accept the sin as ‘normal.’ I guess that makes me a bigot too.
