Rev. Fred Gough will be the guest speaker at the annual Memorial Day ceremony which will be held on Monday, May 30th at Veterans Square at the Dillon City-County Complex.
Gough graduated from the University of Chattanooga in Chattanooga, TN, in 1967 with a BA in geography. Gough graduated from the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, VA, in 1972 with a MDiv. His continuing education includes the N.C. Justice Academy, St. George’s College in Jerusalem, Israel, the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, PA, FEMA Emergency Management, Critical Incident Stress Management Institute, and the American Study Program in St. Edmund Hall, Oxford, UK.
Gough has served as the vicar at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Dillon from 1982-1996 and from 2008 until present.
Gough had honorable discharges from the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps. He entered the S.C. State Guard in 1990 where he has served as battalion chaplain, brigade chaplain, staff chaplain for pastoral coordination, and DCS for Mobilization.
He served as chaplain (colonel), assigned as Chief of Chaplains and member of the general staff of the S.C. State Guard from 1999-2013. He is currently serving as chaplain, Joint Services Detachment, S.C. Military Department. He was awarded the S.C. Medal of Merit (2OLCs), Meritorious Service Medal, and Certificates of Commendation from the 2nd U.S. Army and 1st Bn, 263rd Armor, SCARNG, and the Basic Parachutist Badge (Lao). He is a member of the board of S.C. Military Heritage Foundation.
Gough is the past-president of the Dillon County Mental Health Association; the past-president of the Latta Rotary Club, a past member of the board of directors of the Dillon County Chamber of Commerce; past-president of the Haven Hospice (St. Eugene’s Hospice) Advisory Board; past member of the Dillon County Chapter of the American Red Cross Board of Directors; past chairman of the S.C. Children’s Foster Care Review Board (4th Judicial Circuit) past member of the Marion-Dillon Counties Board of Disabilities and Special Needs, and past-vice-president of the Dillon County Department of Social Services Board of Directors. He is married to Catherine Hill Gough.
