Abbott Shelley, President of the Dillon County Historical Society, announces the reopening of the Dillon County Museum located in Latta. It was necessary to close the museum some months ago to make much needed repairs, painting and cleaning.
Constructed in 1915, the Dillon County Museum in Latta is located at the corner of Marion and Main Streets across from the Latta Branch of the Dillon County Library. The museum occupies a building that was once the medical doctor’s office of Dr. H.A. Edwards and later the dentist’s office of his son Dr. Luther Edwards.
The museum has seven display rooms that showcase the history of Dillon County from its inception in 1910. It has artifacts, pictures, documents, etc. related to many families as well as the towns of Dillon, Latta and Lake View. The seven rooms contain items related to the doctor’s office, the military room, the documents room, the agricultural room, the dentist office room, the shop room and the misc. room. Most all items have been donated or are on loan by local families.
The museum is staffed by  Docents on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays the second, third and fourth of each month from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and by appointment by calling 843-752-7342 O.C. Lane, Jr.
President Shelley encourages all in our county who have not visited our museum to please do so. He strongly recommends school classes, scout troops, birthday parties, etc. of our youth in the county to call for a special visit.
