On January 12, 2016, eleven Daughters of the American Revolution, Rebecca Pickens Chapter, held their winter meeting at the Dillon Wellness Center.
The group included Rena Alford, Julia A. McLaurin, Linda Dutton, Lee Ann Calhoun, Jewell Carmichael, Fay Sloan, Nancy Brigman, Susan Shine, Polly McIntyre, Julie Sawyer, and Regent Chris Harris.
After a hearty welcome by the regent, members enjoyed delicious refreshments and catching up with “happenings” among them since their last meeting in November.
Being called to order they were eager to get on with the business beginning with the usual ritual and report of committee chairs. In addition to the ritual the group has acquired the reading or hearing read the Preamble to the Constitution and ringing of bells at each meeting.
All organizations are seeking new members and the report of Registrar Rena Alford was encouraging to hear of several prospects who have completed the research and paperwork necessary to join.
Following the business, an interesting program on Rebecca Pickens was presented by Susan Shine. Besides having a wealth of information on Rebecca Pickens (for whom our chapter was named) she had beautiful framed portraits of her and her husband, Gen. Andrew Pickens.
Regent Chris thanked Susan and other participants and the hostesses, Nancy Brigman, Julie Sawyer and Linda Dutton, after which the meeting was adjourned.
