A postal employee went out of her way to help another person recently.
A 78-year old customer had received a fake check for $14,000 with instructions to mail back checks to the sender for $200, $4800 and $9500.  She was assured she had won a lottery, and the money was payment for fees.
After mailing the second amount, sent in cash via Priority Express, the victim realized that it was a scam, and contacted Lake View Postmaster, Beth Chavis.
Chavis was able to reach the destinating office, in time to stop delivery.  Postal Inspectors are returning the money.
The customer was extremely thankful to Chavis. Chavis says she is just glad that she was able to help.
Chavis has been the postmaster in Lake View for four years.
