Looking back at 2015, there was an effort by the City of Dillon Police Department worthy of being noted.
The City of Dillon Police Department made a concerted effort to establish better community relations. This is not to say that they didn’t already have a good relationship with the community, but they noticeably worked to improve and enhance this relationship.
It started with their Cookout With Cops. These were highly successful cookouts at three local parks. Hundreds of people turned out, mingled with members of the police department, and both officers and community members seemed to have a good time.
The next big event was Trunk-or-Treat at the Dillon City-County Complex parking lot. Officers decorated their vehicles and handed out treats. Hundreds also attended this event with lines stretching around the complex.
The department has also used The Dillon Herald to help bring attention to some of their cases, including some older ones having come to a successful resolution on some of them due to the public’s help.
The City of Dillon Police Department is working hard to show the community that they care. – They care about the people; they want to establish a positive relationship with them; and they want to bring criminals to justice – and isn’t that what we all want from law enforcement?
