Great Shakout 2015 at East
THE GREAT SOUTHEAST SHAKE-OUT will be observed at 10:16 a.m. on October 16, 2015. “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” is the appropriate action to reduce injury and death during earthquakes. Federal, state, and local emergency management experts and other official preparedness organizations all agree that The ShakeOut is an opportunity to practice how to protect ourselves during earthquakes. Official rescue teams around the world advocate use of the internally recognized “Drop, Cover and Hold On” protocol to protect lives during earthquakes: (1) DROP to the ground (before the earthquake drops you!), (2) Take COVER by getting under a sturdy desk or table, and (3) HOLD ON to it until the shaking stops. If there isn’t a table near you, drop to the ground in an inside corner of the building and cover your head and neck with your hands and arms. Do not try to run to another room just to get under a table.  All faculty, staff and students at East Elementary participated in the ShakeOut, pictured are Jernajah Harley and Brayden English in Mrs. Tanner’s class.
