New Life Family Worship Center celebrated twelve years of Cowboy Church on Saturday, October 17. Pastor Jim Owens opened with prayer and song followed by Pam McCormick who extended a warm welcome to all.
Cowboys for Christ’s Calvin Barfield of Conway and his grandson, Cowboy Cooper, were guest speakers. Of course, they were accompanied by “Honey,” Calvin’s trusted and faithful companion … his horse.
Barfield recounted his visit eight years ago when he asked for prayer for his grandson, Cowboy Cooper, who was only two years old at the time. Cowboy Cooper had a very bad experience while visiting his grandfather’s house. He accompanied his grandfather into the yard where his grandfather had been burning trash. Cooper was wearing “Croc” shoes; before his grandfather was aware, he had walked through the “burning trash” sustaining third degree burns on his feet! His shoes, made of plastic, had actually burned to his feet! Of course, Cooper was rushed to the hospital and the prognosis was not good. Cooper was to have multiple surgeries and skin grafts. Immediately everyone began to pray for Cooper and only a couple of weeks later on his visit with the doctor was told he had received a miracle … he was healed and surgery was not necessary. To God be the glory!
Cowboy pleased the audience with his story of bull riding becoming so popular today. He also performed with his whip and his lasso to everyone’s delight. The afternoon was filled with gospel singing, games, wagon rides, horse rides, and fellowship. Everyone enjoyed free refreshments.
Pastor Jim Owens and the congregation of New Life Family Worship Center thanked the community for their support.
