Northeastern Technical College recently received a grant in excess of $1.2 million from the U.S. Department of Education to help support first-generation, low-income students and those with disabilities to succeed in higher education.
NETC will receive $253,676 annually over the next five years, under the TRiO Student Support Services Program, to provide support to 160 eligible students from Chesterfield, Marlboro, and Dillon Counties.
Student Support Services works to improve student success and retention by providing students access to academic tutoring, workshops, cultural events, mentoring, counseling, as well as the support and resources needed to help students transfer to four-year colleges.
“The office of Student Support Services (SSS) is very excited and eager in continuing to fulfill our mission of “making educational dreams become reality” for students.  The supportive service we provide seeks to fill in the academic, financial, social and cultural gap of first-generation, low-income and students with disabilities,” said Wendy Woods, director of Student Support Services at NETC.
“Over the past 22 years, the office of Student Support Services at Northeastern Technical College has seen many students succeed through the efforts of the SSS program and we will continue the work of ensuring student success.” Woods continued.
