The Dillon Christian School Warriors hosted the Village Christian School Knights Tuesday night at Warrior Stadium and the preseason football action ended with a 14-14 finish.
The Warriors led 14-0 as the first half came to a close. The Knights were stopped three times on offense in Warrior territory by a determined Warrior defense in the first half.
In the second half, both sides were rotating players and experimenting on different play options. The Knights picked up a touchdown with 7:42 left in the third quarter and tied the contest in the fourth from an eight yard pass.
In preseason action rushing the kicker is not allowed and all point after kicks were made with ease by both team’s kickers.
Brian Davis seems to have the Warrior quarterbacking duties at this time but Michael Minges could come in if Davis has trouble. The Warriors have a stable of running backs lead by Kelvin Stackhouse, Te’Shaun Lane, Michael Minges, and Anthony “Red” Williams. Luke Price returns at linebacker as the Warriors’ leading tackler. David Williams, Jake Boykin, and Ethan Shackelford return as veterans on offense and defense for the Warriors.
Preseason games are training experiences. The Warrior coaches evaluated their strengths and weaknesses in this matchup. The Warriors looked very good at times on offense and defense but do not look to be a dominating powerhouse early in the season. The Warrior coaches will be looking to improve the team as the season progresses and by season end have them back in the playoffs looking for a title shot.
